Job Description

 

 

Background:

AMDeC, LLC is a consortium of pre-eminent academic biomedical research institutions in the New York region focused on developing programs that encourage collaboration and create efficiencies in biomedical and translational research, with the goal of expediting discovery.  A centerpiece of this effort is AMDeC F.I.R.S.T.™, a real-time online registry of research technologies and services facilitating access to a broad range of research resources.  In addition, members use AMDeC F.I.R.S.T.™,   as well as the sale and purchase of excess Core capacity by academic research institutions and industry alike, thereby offering the potential for savings and revenue generation. Additional programs include vendor partnerships that facilitate preferred pricing for Members and placement of cutting-edge technologies in Member institutions at low cost.

 

The Positon:

The Scientific Operations and Development Director is a newly created role that will work to expand AMDeC’s offerings and partnerships in order to better serve the academic research community, and eventually, the commercial life-science sector.  Working closely with the President, this individual will identify, evaluate, and pursue new scientific and strategic partnerships/alliances to support the organization and provide value to AMDeC’s Members.  In addition, the Director will work with representatives of Member organizations to implement and execute new initiatives.  This is an ideal opportunity for an entrepreneurial professional with a strong life science and business background.

 

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and implement successful strategies and tactics to sell AMDeC services and programs
  • Support development of new accounts and grow existing accounts
  • Cultivate an exceptionally strong knowledge of all aspects of AMDeC’s offerings, benefits, and business practices
  • Develop excellent relationships with target audiences (Members, Vendor Partners, biotech/small pharma) and seek and obtain constructive feedback from target partners/customers to help guide continual improvement of programs and services
  • Work with Scientific Advisory Committee and other scientific advisory groups, such as the Genomic Analysis and Technology Excellence group and the Core Directors group
  • Attend and represent AMDeC at local and national scientific conferences, as appropriate
  • Recognize trends that may affect interest in or utilization of AMDeC services and products and determine strategies to leverage or address
  • Serve as an AMDeC ambassador to the target customer and other key audiences

Qualifications:

  • MBA plus advanced degree in life sciences (PhD preferred)
  • 5-7 years scientific business planning/development/science operations experience
  • Experience dealing with strategic alliances and negotiating and completing agreements
  • Ability to forge relationships both within and outside the organization
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to persuade and motivate others
  • Expertise in project management, with strong time-management and organization skills
  • Some sales experience and/or comfort initiating relationships and interacting with senior level executives in both formal and informal settings
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work within the construct of a small organization
