JOB DESCRIPTION
The Organization: Wall Street Rising (WSR) is a well-regarded nonprofit organization founded in late 2001 as a direct response to the tragic events of September 11th. Their goal is to restore vibrancy and vitality to Lower Manhattan by promoting the area as a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week destination for businesses, residents, employees, and visitors. They do this by creating and implementing community programs that plant new seeds for the neighborhood's economic, residential and cultural growth. These programs and events include: The Downtown Information Center (located at 55 Exchange Place), a discount card program, Corridor of Light, music Downtown, Art Downtown, and special events such as A Taste of Wall Street and the Leadership Gala.
WSR is essentially a coalition of stakeholders, funded mainly by corporate sponsors including leading investment banks, law firms, real estate companies, media companies, as well as small businesses and residents. They have grown to 30,000 members and raised more than $10 million since their inception.
The Position: Wall Street Rising is looking to identify a vibrant and dedicated nonprofit executive to lead the organization and continue to build effective programs that promote cultural and historic attractions in Lower Manhattan. The person they are seeking will be highly intelligent, creative, energetic, and able to effectively and persuasively articulate the goals and vision of the organization to multiple constituencies. The primary responsibility of the position is to build partnerships, market the organization’s programs, and raise substantial support from individuals, foundations and corporations on behalf of their mission. The Executive Director supervises four professional staff and reports to the Board of Directors.
Specific Responsibilities: • Implement the organization’s strategic plan; expand and enhance programs and procedures in support of the mission; create measurable goals and objectives
• Manage day-to-day operations; recruit and supervise a growing professional staff appropriate in size, capacity and scope
• Serve as a lead representative and spokesperson for WSR, communicating effectively to a variety of audiences
• Develop and maintain sound financial practices; prepare budgets and see that the organization operates within budget guidelines
• Ensure compliance, at all levels, with the organization’s policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local laws
• Build and develop partnerships across the community to support outstanding initiatives and create new projects
• Market WSR’s programs that attract cultural events and historic attractions to the downtown area
• Raise substantial support from individuals, foundations and corporations through direct fundraising and special events
Qualifications: • A Bachelor’s degree and preferably an advanced degree; five to ten years of increasingly responsible management experience in an applicable setting; private sector experience is a plus
• Experience in marketing programs and fundraising
• A talent for building and cultivating partnerships between the public and private sectors.
• Outstanding speaking and writing skills
• Knowledge of leadership and management principals as they relate to non-profit organizations
• Ability to work closely with the Board and staff to promote an open, inclusive environment that emphasizes cooperation and teamwork
• Must be bright, diplomatic, analytical, of the highest integrity, and possess sound judgment and interpersonal skills
